Ms. Birk describes her first airport management position at Van Nuys Airport as the highlight of her career. She also worked on the software for LAX to be prepared for the year 2000. She has been determined not to let any barriers stop her in her career, and she does not accept no as an answer. She knows that women are certainly a minority in aviation, but she attributes her success to good mentors, both male and female.
