Selena Birk has 26 years of experience in Project management, emergency management and airport operations. She was the deputy executive director of operations and emergency management for the Los Angeles World Airports until she left to start her own consulting business, Selena Birk, where she uses her experience to offer airport operations and systems and emergency management services.

Ms. Birk describes her first airport management position at Van Nuys Airport as the highlight of her career. She also worked on the software for LAX to be prepared for the year 2000. She has been determined not to let any barriers stop her in her career, and she does not accept no as an answer. She knows that women are certainly a minority in aviation, but she attributes her success to good mentors, both male and female.

Ms. Birk received a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona. She would like to be remembered for being the first female airport manager in Los Angeles, as well as for being a good wife and a supportive friend. Ms. Birk intends to continue consulting and traveling in the immediate future. She is a member of the United Way and is on the board of directors for the southwest chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives. She also supports the Movember Foundation for Men’s Health and the ASPCA.
