She has skills and knowledge in urban planning, sustainable design and code and design building. She believes that her patience, hard work and optimism have helped her get where she is in her life today. Although she initially left the workforce to be a stay-at-home mom, Tamera Swan-Mason always wanted to start her own business. When her children grew up and left home, she decided it was time to follow her dreams, and White Swan Inc. began as the logo that sold her wild rose products. She designed a white swan with roses cascading down the side to capture the elegance of her product. The line currently sells hand and body lotion and bath and shower gel, and Ms. Swan-Mason is looking to expand to rich moisture cream and a facial cleanser with rose hip oil.

Jennifer Roop

After completing a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Northwestern University, Jennifer Roop received a Master of Arts in public relations and advertising from DePaul University in 2012. Although she held a variety of positions with the university, including the Women’s Network Executive Vice President, she eventually settled into the Department of Housing Services marketing and communication manager, a role she has now held for one year. Ms. Roop is responsible for running internal and external marketing and communication efforts, and giving presentations to prospective students and parents/guardians. She is also in charge of managing the marketing area budget.

The biggest challenge Ms. Roop has faced in her career thus far has been transitioning from being in behind-the-scenes positions to the much more public managerial positions. However, she is still looking forward to making changes and improvements and utilizing her writing, editing, and public relations skills as she becomes more comfortable with the role.

Magali Jerez, Ph.D.

Before she retired, Magali Jerez was a professor and administrator for the World Languages Department at Bergen Community College for 25 years. Before and during her career as an educator, she received two Ph.D.’s, a Master’s in counseling and psychology and a Bachelor’s in languages. Although she may say that the a career in education chose her, she stayed because of the impact that teachers have on the lives of students. She loves acting as a mentor to students and being able to give them the tools they need in order to be successful in their careers.

Dr. Jerez gets an immense sense of pride and accomplishment when she sees her students succeed. In her first-level language classes, she was able to witness her students go from knowing nothing about a language, to performing a skit with colleagues. She also wrote the music, lyrics and words for “Let’s Pray for Peace,” a piece in the 2003 International Festival of Music. She has also translated from Spanish to English and French to Italian. She has published a number of language textbooks, as well.
