Initially, Maj. Barbara S. King became involved in her profession to help pay for training. By the end of her military basic training, however, she was hooked, and knew she would be in it for life. Immediately after graduation from advanced individual training, Ms. King began looking for full-time work in the National Guard, and nine months later, she was hired for her first U.S. Department of Defense position. She currently serves as a performance assessment officer for the Business Transformation Office of the National Guard Bureau, where she supports the company’s mission to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the key business processes for the Army National Guard. Ms. King also oversees the sustainment, restoration and modernization program, reviews projects that allow all of the states and territories to maintain their Army National Guard facilities, and coaches perspective Green and Black Belt Lean Six Sigma candidates.
