A veteran of the energy supply industry, Pat Tudor brings five decades of professional experience to her position at Xcel Energy Inc. The utilities company provides electricity and natural gas services, including in the areas of renewable and sustainable energy. As a senior engineer and project manager, Ms. Tudor oversees daily business operations.

During Ms. Tudor’s initial years with the company, she was not given any projects because of her gender. She had to speak with an equal employment opportunity commission attorney to get projects assigned to her. Ms. Tudor was guided by her will to get the job done. Now, years later, she feels that her well-rounded experience gives her an edge in understanding all aspects of major construction jobs.

Sharla Jones, Ph.D.

From an early age, Sharla Jones knew what she wanted to do. Her mother was a college professor, so Dr. Jones met many international students and kindled a love for foreign languages. She liked learning about other cultures and communicating with people from those cultures. Dr. Jones is currently serving as a professor in the department of language, philosophy and culture at San Antonio College. She is inspired in her career by her internal drive, which is fueled by the lives of her students.

Prior to joining San Antonio College, Dr. Jones worked at Northwest Vista College, Miami Dade College, and Sacramento City College. Her greatest strength is her willingness to stand up for the underdog. Dr. Jones is very vocal about injustice, and believes that there isn’t anything that can’t be done. She would like to change how the public perceives non-English speaking students.

As a natural communicator, she has always found writing therapeutic, so she passed her business down to her children and started writing her first book, “Widows 101.” In it, Ms. Barber uses the personal experience of her husband’s death to provide practical tips for surviving widowhood. The book touches on topics such as dealing with grief, making personal and social adjustments, funeral arrangements, and redefining desires for the future.

She has many friends who are transgender, and as a psychologist, she wanted to create a place they could go to for support. The biggest challenge Ms. Hamrick faced was getting the nonprofit organization running financially, but she is proud to have learned how to fundraise effectively.
