Involved in her field because she wanted to make a difference and help those in need, Rev. Jessica Barr has garnered 10 years of professional experience, with areas of expertise in medical social work, case management and discharge preparation. She has three years under her belt as a social worker for the Jewish Home Assisted Living, where her responsibilities include setting up and tracking all appointments and helping residents with all of their needs.
As a social worker for an assisted living home, Rev. Barr must tend to the needs of both the patient and their families. She is in charge of performing a psychosocial assessments upon admission, giving mini-mental state evaluations, working with private care agencies, coordination of outside appointments, planning, assisting and leading social service based activities such as group meetings for new residents and “Time Slips” in the memory care unit and participating with interdepartmental team meetings to coordinate the best care possible for our residents.
In 2005, in order to prepare for her career, Ms. Barr received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in sociology, and then went on to complete a master’s degree in social work, both from Rutgers University. Prior to joining Jewish Home Assisted Living, she worked for Mount Olive Chiropractic Center, Care Plus NJ, Inc., Bergen Regional Medical Center and the Department of Children and Families/ Department of Youth and Family Services.
In order to stay involved and up-to-date with her field, Ms. Barr is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Looking to the future of her career, she would like to eventually have her own counseling practice. In her free time, she enjoys attending the theater, dancing, reading and writing, supporting holistic medicine, Reiki and Munay-Ki rites. She also likes reading U.S. News and World Report and Food & Wine magazine.
