Karyn Eilber has always had an overwhelming interest in the sciences, but didn’t want to just do research. After considering her options, she decided to become a medical doctor because it offered her so many more opportunities. Dr. Eilber originally thought about entering pediatrics or gynecology, but ultimately landed in urology. As a physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she helps women with bladder complications and focuses on incontinence and prolapse.
In addition to her current role, Dr. Eilber also serves as the associate director of the urology residency program, which she considers that to be her greatest accomplishment because it gives her the chance to educate others in the field. One of the biggest challenges she faces, however, is getting rid of the taboo related to her work. Additionally, it takes a lot to get people to put aside their embarrassment and seek help. Nonetheless, Dr. Eilber has been able to make a positive impact on the field of urology. In 2015, she was honored with a teaching award to recognize her for her work.
