When Geri Scott was growing up, she was privileged to be surrounded by family who supported her in whatever she chose to do and granted her many opportunities. She soon recognized that not everyone is so fortunate, however, and decided to pursue a career in vocational psychology to help them. Since then, Ms. Scott has worked with a broad range of workforce development programs, both in Massachusetts and nationally, and has garnered more than 25 years of experience in the field.

Ms. Scott’s professional path eventually led her to join her current employer, Jobs for the Future, as a program director in 2002. Jobs for the Future is a nonprofit organization that provides innovative career pathways, educational resources, and public policies that increase college readiness and career success, thus building a more highly skilled workforce. Ms. Scott’s responsibilities with the organization include managing the Pathways out of Poverty, GreenWays, and American Apprenticeship initiatives, and integrating innovative workforce partnership and regional funding collaborative approaches to sector organizing and career advancement for lower-skilled individuals. She attributes her success to her ability to find a common thread in opposing positions and make difficult concepts more accessible.

Loera Pope de Rendon

Her responsibilities include running the business, which provides internal medicine with an emphasis on cardiology, on a day-to-day basis and helping it grow. Ms. Pope de Rendon is particularly proud of helping her husband find a building for his practice during its inception on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Hospital Campus. Since then, they have made the location one of the most successful practices in Savannah, Georgia.

Sherri Miller

Following a 15-year career in real estate and title insurance, Sherri Miller decided to move to the pharmaceutical industry.  She has spent the past year as the vice president of finance and accounting for DrugDev, Inc., a company that provides innovative technology solutions that enable the industry to conduct more trials and bring more drugs to the industry for the benefit of the patients.

In her current role, Ms. Miller is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including financial forecasting, strategic planning, handling operations, project management, business development, and performing cash flow analysis and reporting. She also sponsors escrow account reconciliation and bank reconciliation, supervises yearly corporate 1099 workers, directs all aspects of accounting operations, and oversees all tax planning and compliance with required federal, state, local, payroll, and property taxes.

Involved in the securities industry since the early 1980s, Lily Vega feels that she didn’t choose her career, it chose her. She was working in New York in the finance department of the housing industry when she decided to move to Puerto Rico and get a job with Merrill Lynch. Ms. Vega was first involved in the operational aspects of the business, and has since occupied positions such as vice president, senior vice president, and senior trader for a variety of firms. She lives in a small community, and once she built her reputation, everyone wanted her help and organizations started to reach out.

Two years ago, Ms. Vega joined Fairbridge Capital Markets as a senior trader. The boutique investment bank and full-service brokerage provides solutions to governments, corporations, financial entities, hedge funds, municipalities, endowments, municipalities and public/private pension funds. Ms. Vega attributes her success in the field to her extensive background, as well as the fact that she is objective, honest, and follows all of the rules. She is also always available for her clients, and has developed wonderful, trustful relationships.
