Always skilled in math and science, Cheryl Warrick knew she wanted to turn those talents into a fruitful career. She eventually decided to follow in the footsteps of her great-grandmother, who was a mechanical engineer in Italy, and ended up receiving a full scholarship in her chosen field from Drexel University. Now, more than two decades later, Ms. Warrick is thriving at Lockheed Martin Corporation, a global security and aerospace company. She spent her first seven years with the company in technology services, and naturally progressed to her current role as an engineer.

Brianna Venekamp

Driven by her passion for working with children, Brianna Venekamp decided to pursue a career in education. She proceeded to earn a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in English, both from Augustana College, and is now serving as a sixth grade English language arts teacher in the Sioux Falls School District. Ms. Venekamp believes that children are the future, and it is important to help them, not only with their reading and writing, but also with their self-confidence and self-worth. She loves to see that light bulb go off in students when a connection is made, and feels her greatest accomplishment is when those students come back and tell her that she was their favorite teacher.

Known affectionately among her peers as the “trailer chick,” Terry D. Sherman has spent more than two decades honing her skills in the construction industry. Due to her first job with the GSA, she was well aware of the government mandate to support women and minority businesses. Then, in 1988, Ms. Sherman saw a need and, with the government mandate in mind, she launched Delmarva Trailers & Containers, a storage services company. She started out sitting on the floor with one desk and one trailer, and now has more than 1,000 pieces of equipment.

Ever since high school, Amber Saber had dreamed of attending Northeastern University in Boston. She worked hard throughout high school and completed two years of junior college to save up for that dream. Then, in what she considers to be her greatest accomplishment to date, Ms. Saber ended up earning a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern. Since then, she has been determinedly using her education to reach new professional heights. Ms. Saber currently works for Netflix, where she has had the opportunity to come up with creative ways to increase exposure and come up with a stronger brand. She attributes her success thus far to her ability to read people and learn things fast.
