Andrew Peller Limited is a Canadian importer, warehouse and brand building agent for fine wines and spirits from around the world. The company also owns and operates Vineyards Estate Wines, Aisle 43 and WineCountry Vintners and a number of independent wine retailers in Ontario. Alex Bakker is the managing national agency director for the company, where she has managed and grown key license accounts in Western Canada, including those with a national scope for Andrew Peller’s VQA portfolio. She hopes to continue working for the company and eventually obtain a vice presidential position.
Ms. Bakker started her career running a restaurant. She received a strategic leadership certificate from Sauder School of Business and CST BTECH in computer systems technology. She also studied physics and economics. Her proudest achievement with Andrew Peller so far is when the business doubled its sales in five years and went to a national business unit.
Now with 20 years in her current position, Ms. Bakker is inspired by winning. Her motivation comes from positive results and having her teams succeed. Her ability to build deep and meaningful relationships has also served her well. She is able to create and sustain relationships with everyone in the industry, especially suppliers and buyers, to ensure that Andrew Peller remains successful. Additionally, she is also an expert in sales management, brand management, trade channel marketing and key account development.
Outside of her position with Andrew Peller, Ms. Bakker is a member of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade and participates in the Leader of Tomorrow Mentor Program. She also supports the efforts of the BC Hospitality Foundation – Tip Out for Life, the Canadian Ovarian Cancer Society, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Vancouver Food Bank, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. In her free time, she can be found spending time with her family and watching their sports.
