Determined to make a difference in the lives of young people, Cathy Sauls has spent the past three decades serving as a social worker for Wake County Human Services. She became involved in the profession after college, when she was looking for a job. Dr. Sauls learned about the programs and policies involved, and loved it. She now works with pregnant women in maternal health and manages the whole county; she has made it her mission to provide direction to those who need it. Her leadership skills and organizational skills have aided her in this endeavor.

Dr. Sauls prepared for her career by earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology and communications with a concentration in English, as well as a doctorate in teaching and ethics. She is also an ordained minister. Looking forward, Dr. Sauls hopes to teach at the university level; she loves what she does, and wants to pass it on.

When Dr. Sauls isn’t working, she enjoys writing. She is currently working on a book about the segregation of the schools she attended. Dr. Sauls also supports the Kidney Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She considers her greatest accomplishment to be enduring seven years of kidney failure and having faith while waiting for a transplant, so the cause is close to her heart. Dr. Sauls finds inspiration in God, and trusts in Him to keep her going.
