Fortes, BrendaTitle: Teacher
Company: Boyertown Area School District
Location: Pottstown, PA United States

Inspired on a daily basis by the impact she has on her students and her personal relationships with them, Brenda Fortes has always been passionate about educating others. She prepared for her career in education by obtaining a degree in English literature and a Master of Education, plus 28 semester hours, from Eastern University. Ms. Fortes is also a certified English teacher and certified in elementary education. She prides herself on being more than just a teacher to her students. While she does teach them language arts, she also makes sure that they feel validated as human beings and provides them with the hope for a brighter future.

As an English teacher, Ms. Fortes works to help her students succeed in writing research papers and other writing and language arts-based practices. But even more than that, she wants to give each and every one of her students the opportunity to have a real chance to move forward in life. This is why she does everything she can to make life less difficult for both her students and their families. She shows compassion during difficult times, and her students know that they can come to her for help with anything that is troubling them—whether it is related to school work or not. One of her students even named her as a favorite teacher, saying, “Ms. Fortes doesn’t just teach me English; she teaches me about life.”

In addition to the meaningful moments she shares with her students and their families, Ms. Fortes is a member of the Boyertown Area Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, the American Association of University Women and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Looking to the future of her career, she hopes to retire soon, but she will continue teaching through private tutoring. More than anything, she wants to be remembered for having an impact and making a difference in her students’ lives.
