Title: Volunteer Program Manager
Company: Lake Metroparks
Location: Euclid, OH United States
Merle Walker is the volunteer program manager for Lake Metroparks, a position she has held for more than 25 years. She is responsible for handling and overseeing all aspects of the volunteer program, including training staff, developing and implementing protocol, managing volunteers and recruitment. She is also the president of Special Socials Inc., a small nonprofit organization providing programs to fill the gaps in the community. She also consults and coaches volunteer managers and non-profit management teams.
In addition to her work with Lake Metroparks, Ms. Walker serves on two nonprofit boards, is a member of the Citizen Corp and working on a project with the Urban Farm Association. She has also taught the Essentials in Volunteer Management and leadership classes at a handful of universities. Looking to the future, she would like to mentor individuals and continue giving back to her community.
Ms. Walker does not let people tell her what she can and cannot do, nor is she afraid of failure. The advice she can share with the younger generation of women entering the workforce is to not be afraid of failure and to to seek out assistance from people who have experience.
