Driven by her desire to help local farmers, Rebecca Sexton formed Twin Lakes Environmental Services, LLC, in July 2004. The company works to help producers with manure management plans, and acts as a liaison between farmers and local and federal agencies. Ms. Sexton’s goal is to ensure that environmentally sound agricultural practices are used and that manure is used in compliance with all regulations. She believes that the process has become more complicated than it needs to be, so she wants to simplify it and help her clients understand what needs to be done.

The biggest challenge that Ms. Sexton faces is getting the farmers to understand that she is there to help. Some of them have been working the land for more than 100 years, and since she is a young woman, they think she doesn’t know what she is talking about. Ms. Sexton works closely with her clients to make them see her point of view and realize that they have to follow EPA guidelines, however, and they eventually get it.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Sexton completed college training in livestock environmental compliance at Ohio State University. Her willingness to care for others comes from her father, who was bilingual and always helped people, no matter who they were. As a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association, Ms. Sexton would advise the younger generations to go the extra mile and be proud of the work they do.
