Janet Poole

Title: Senior Systems Specialist
Company: WestEd
Location: Lincoln, CA United States

As a woman in today’s world, Janet Poole feels that her passion for her field has contributed to her success. She loves working with infants and toddlers, as do the people she works with at WestEd. The company is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research, development and service agency with a goal of making a positive difference in the lives of children across the U.S.

Over the course of her career, Ms. Poole has co-owned and co-developed programs to help others understand early brain development in toddlers, with a focus on the first three years of life, and has created the largest system of caregivers for infants and toddlers. Currently, she is working on a campaign called For Our Babies, which she hopes to bring to the forefront of the industry. Built on the belief that the U.S. does not properly nurture brain development after birth, For Our Babies is a movement that promotes the healthy development of babies, and advocates for various environments and relationships that toddlers need to thrive. Ms. Poole is also involved in The Program for Infant/Toddler Care, which promotes relationship planning over lesson planning for children under the age of 3.

Prior to her position with WestEd, Ms. Poole spent 24 years with the Department of Education and 30 years at the community college level. Her greatest strength is in administration and training. Looking forward, Ms. Poole hopes to continue on the track she is on, and develop a training resource facility. She prepared for her career by earning a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
