A geographer by trade, Melinda Laituri has served as a professor in the ecosystem and sustainability department of Colorado State University for four years. She chose her career path after taking a class taught by a geographer; she found his trade to be extremely interesting and exciting. Working in a male-dominated industry can be challenging sometimes, but Dr. Laituri is inspired by the young people she works with. She hopes to be remembered for always being there for others.
While following her passion, Dr. Laituri earned a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Arizona. Her dissertation focused on environmental equity and groundwater resources in the American Southwest and the US-Mexico border. If Dr. Laituri could change one thing about her career, however, it would be to have a better balance between her work and home life. When she has free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, and snowshoeing.
