Drawing upon 30 years of experience, Sheila Seiler continues as executive director of the nonprofit group, Susan G Komen Evansville Tri-State. In 2012, the group’s name was changed to Evansville Tri-State Affiliate of Susan G Komen, but their mission remained the same, as she contributes her passion for the organization’s success, helping more than thirteen thousand regional nonprofit organizations. Ms. Seiler is also responsible for the overall operation of the affiliate, including representing the organization to the public and community organizations.
The Komen Evansville Race for the Cure was first held in 1998 and drew an incredible 5,000 participants, surpassing all local and national expectations. The Greater Evansville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1999 and that year the Race for the Cure drew 10,230 people and raised $465,000. In addition, $158,000 was granted out to organizations in the 28 county service area and 25% of funds raised were also given to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program.
The advice Sheila can give to the younger generation of women is, “Have no fear. People are the same as you. Own who you are. When you walk into a room, make sure people know who you are by the time you leave the room.”
