One day, a lottery occurred at Ms. Homola’s high school to give the students an opportunity to select their teachers for the following year, rather than the usual assignment of teachers. That day, her classes were closed out almost immediately. It gave her great satisfaction to be appreciated in that way. Ms. Homola is a former senior high school and community college teacher. She is a former employee of Robertson Jewelers. She also co-owned a business with her husband. In five years, Ms. Homola plans to work in retail as a profession, and hopefully link her interest in antiques and vintage items to a small online business.
Initially, Ms. Homola became involved in her profession because she has always loved learning and that love of learning eventually translated into a desire to teach. Her love of Latin was fostered by her extremely dedicated high school Latin teacher, Mrs. Marian Stone. Miss Bree, the classics department chairwoman at Albertus Magnus College and Sister Mary Faith Dargan were both important influences in her interest in the Classics. Mathematics has always appealed to her due to its logic and she finds a strong correlation between the logic of mathematics and the precise nature of both the Latin and Greek languages.
