Theresa Marie Furey has worn many hats throughout the course of her career. After serving as the director of the Congressional Record Index, she moved to Springfield, IL, where she found that replacing her job wasn’t quite as easy as she expected. Ms. Furey was faced with the fact that getting a job in the Illinois government was based more off of who you know than what you know, so she set her sights on a different career pursuit: becoming a landlord. Through her property management company, she invested in seven pieces of property, which she rented out to various tenants. Very handy, Ms. Furey could fix almost any problem by herself. Through her years in that role, she again encountered an unfortunate truth: tenants will do anything to get out of paying rent. Eventually, Ms. Furey sold everything to focus on her current passion, community work.

Megan Rodel

Megan Rodel is an energetic, motivated and dedicated individual with a passion for the mining industry. After serving in a variety of production-related roles, which helped her develop strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function well under pressure, she took a corporate role with De Beers Canada Mining, a diamond mining company. That role gave her the opportunity to be involved in technical projects and the business planning process, which has shown her the importance of striving for both technical and operational excellence. Ms. Rodel recently took on a permanent business improvement position with De Beers Canada Mining at the Snap Lake Mine. There, she and her team develop opportunities to increase throughput, improve operational efficiencies, reduce costs and implement initiatives.

Drawing on her expertise in phlebotomy and overall business operations, Lesile Porschen is the current president and owner of Porite Labs. She also serves as the co-owner of Cliffside Labs. Porite Labs is a full-service independent clinical laboratory that provides phlebotomy services, and Cliffside Labs is a drug abuse testing lab. In both of her roles, Ms. Porschen is responsible for drawing blood, analyzing lab results and reporting to doctors. She became involved in her profession because of her father, who opened the labs 65 years ago.
