Driven by her passion for her field, Sonya DeLange earned a Master of Science in communication disorders and became a licensed speech-language pathologist. She also has a teaching credential and a certificate of clinical competence. Now, Ms. DeLange uses that background as a speech-language pathologist for the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District in California. In addition to providing speech therapy services to the district, she has also spent the last 15 years working with the Loma Linda Broadcasting Network, on a completely volunteer basis. There, she has served as a co-host, co-producer and content creator for the network. Her most outstanding accomplishment has been creating, developing, hosting and singing for “The Gathering Show,” a television program featuring nine instrumentalists and six vocalists. The show allows viewers to sing and play along to familiar gospel melodies, and has featured more than 700 religious songs with 86 programs.
As a woman in today’s world, Ms. DeLange attributes her four decades of success to her positive attitude and work ethic. When she started volunteering with LLBN TV, she found her passions for hosting religious programs, television and producing. She has had a number of mentors throughout her career who have influenced her to be who she is today, but none more than Ganim Hanna, the president and chief executive officer of LLBN TV. She also notes that Dr. Randy Roberts, the senior pastor at her alma mater, Loma Linda University, exhibits an amazing passion for outreach and ministry that she has tried to follow in her career as well.
Ms. DeLange is a member of CSHA, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Alpha Delta Kappa. She has also sung first soprano with the Loma Linda University Church Choir since 1996.
Looking to the near future, Ms. DeLange would like to retire from speech pathology so she can fully commit herself to volunteering for the Loma Linda Broadcasting Network. When she is not working or volunteering, she enjoys riding her Harley-Davidson, waterskiing, skiing and watercraft.
