In pursuit of her passions, Saundra Paschal began her career more than 30 years ago as a teacher’s aide, after graduating from Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a minor in biology. She is now a math teacher at Lake View High School, where she is responsible for teaching honors algebra II and pre-calculus. Additionally, she coaches the mathematics team, coordinates the school’s university interscholastic league, and provides advisement on books for publication.
Ms. Paschal attributes her success to her ability to teach students, as well as the support she received from her own high school teachers. She wants to give her students the same support and motivation she received when she was a student because it shaped her into the woman she is today. She shows no desire to slow down, and plans on continuing to teach at the school and share her knowledge with her students and the other teachers.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Ms. Paschal is a member of the school district’s curriculum writing team, the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association and ASCD. Her long-time commitment to sharing her knowledge and educating young minds has earned a Worldwide Lifetime Achievement award, VIP of the Year recognition, a Teacher of the Year Award, and a feature in the Top 12 Educators of the Year Calendar.
When she has free time, Ms. Paschal volunteers and plays the organ at her local church, and helps out with a number of local charitable organizations. She also enjoys taking photographs of the high school sports teams. True to her mathematics and scientific roots, she also takes pictures of natural landscape to capture the evidence of mathematical functions in the real world.
