In pursuit of a career that aligned with her passions, Teresa Pope earned a bachelor’s degree in applied science, management and supervision from Daytona State University, in addition to an associate’s degree in accounting technology and certification as a public housing manager and HCV executive manager. She uses this background, in addition to 12 past years of experience in her current position, as the deputy executive director for the New Smyrna Beach Housing Authority. There, her expertise in public housing and housing choices come in handy as she directs all operations of the housing authority. Ms. Pope is responsible for ensuring all employees are trained, abiding by laws, in compliance with policies and procedures and doing their jobs properly. She must also attend meetings and work closely with the executive director, in addition to writing grants, handling finances and budgets and supervising a staff of five.

As a woman in today’s world, Ms. Pope attributes her success to trusting in God and her desire to help the less fortunate. She uses her empathy and passion for helping people to show others that there is a better way and give back what has been given to her.

In correlation with her current position, Ms. Pope is a member of the Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organization, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organization and the Public Housing Authority Directors Association. She also served as the resident commissioner for the New Smyrna Beach Housing Authority’s board of commissioners.

Continuing her passion for helping those who need it most, Ms. Pope also works diligently to support and encourage the youths in her community. She volunteers with a local high school scholarship program, where she acts as a mentor to students preparing for college. She also supports the Volusia/Flagler County Coalition for the homeless, the Volusia County Human Services Advisory Board and Habitat for Humanity. When she is not working or volunteering, Ms. Pope loves to read.
