After 20 years of experience in outpatient psychotherapy and 10 years in psychiatric inpatient hospitals, Peg Lanagan has earned a great rapport with service members and their families. She has an extensive background counseling severely injured veterans, particularly from Iraq and Afghanistan, with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Dr. Lanagan currently uses her expertise to head Peg Lanagan, Ph.D., LLC, which is an Internet education and training company through which she offers webinars on weight loss, fitness, wellness, and mental health. She also counsels veterans over the phone, and is a distributor of the skin-care product, Melaleuca.

As a testament to her success, Dr. Lanagan is a two-time fellowship recipient of 24 free credits per year and a $2,000 stipend from American University, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association and the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She considers her greatest accomplishment, however, to be the number of people she is able to help and refer to the right people for treatment. Dr. Lanagan attributes these achievements to her commitment to serve people, especially the poor and dispossessed. Looking to the future, she intends to start a foundation for veterans and get more grants for wounded soldiers. She hopes to be remembered for her compassion and kindness.

To prepare for her career, Dr. Lanagan earned a Ph.D.  in counseling theory and research with a concentration in college administration of counseling centers from American University in 1979. She is also a retired licensed professional counselor, and is pursuing a professional trauma certification.
