Over the past 16 years, Sheila Batchelder has worked hard to climb the ladder in the Beverly Public School system, going from a part-time employee to the kitchen manager of Briscoe Middle School. She has since become an expert at new recipe introduction and menu development, and is responsible for setting up the kitchen, cooking, serving, planning, managing deposits, and conducting food inventory on a weekly basis. Additionally, Ms. Batchelder’s role includes overseeing employees, communicating with the government, and preparing paperwork. She attributes her ongoing success and longevity to the support she receives from her boss and to her willingness to try new things.
Besides her role as the kitchen manager, however, Ms. Batchelder is also involved in a summer food program through the school system. They serve breakfast at local parks, and have an open kitchen at the high school for lunch, ensuring that no child in need of food assistance goes hungry. Looking to the future, Ms. Batchelder intends to further her career by obtaining a nutritional therapist certification. She has also completed college coursework, and earned a diploma from Beverly High School. When Ms. Batchelder isn’t working, she enjoys fitness, puzzles, and spending time with her three children, as well as volunteering with Saint John the Evangelist Church.
