When prohibition was lifted in 1933, Lisa Miller Ryan’s father opened Brookline Liquor Mart in Allston, Massachusetts. Ms. Miller Ryan is the third generation to run the family business, and her son is the fourth generation, as he is involved in the day-to-day business as well. She prides herself on the fact that her store has a selection of wines and liquors that cater to every taste and pallet.

In preparation for her professional endeavors, Ms. Miller Ryan obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and an MBA from Simmons College School of Management, which at the time, was an all-girls program assisting women who were shut out of other business schools. The biggest challenge she has faced in her career was proving herself as a capable woman in a male-driven industry.

Ms. Miller Ryan’s strengths are her selling abilities, communication, customer service interaction and her knowledge of all of the products available in the store especially the wine portion. She is constantly being inspired by her love for the store, as she sees it as a sort of second child. She wants to be remembered as someone who cared for her customers, community and those whose lives have needed her help.
