After realizing she could not make a living in kinesiology, Karen Cannell followed her interests in science and math and began working in IT/SW engineering. She now works for TH Technology, which provides Oracle consulting services, focusing on Oracle Application Express and Oracle development projects of all types, including platform conversions, web technology upgrades and custom and legacy database applications. As the company’s president, she is responsible for running project ideas and initiation through design, development, test, deployment and support stages and consulting clients on solutions and services. Her specialty is in Oracle technologies, including Application Express, Application Server, Oracle database 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c, Discoverer, Forms, Reports, PL/SQL, database design and web application design and development.

With more than 20 years of experience in her field, Ms. Cannell says that the biggest challenge she has overcome is the stigma against women in the technology field. She is proud that she did a good job standing up to the “good ole boy” network, however. Her strengths in knowing who she is and knowing what she brings to the table, as well as her confidence, helped her overcome the challenges she faced. Looking to the future, Ms. Cannell hopes to earn her master’s degree in project management systems design.
