Sandra Smester began her career in broadcast media with Univision as an intern 20 years ago. She worked for the network’s the head of entertainment and he became a mentor to her, and he eventually hired her as a coordinator. From this position, she has grown to the executive vice president of Univision, where she is responsible for supervising day-to-day scheduling and strategic positioning of all on-air content for the network.

In order to prepare for her career in broadcast, Ms. Smester obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in communications from Florida International University and she also had previous programming experience. Her passion for Univision and its audience is not only what led her to starting a career with the company, but is also the reason she has stayed for so long. She knows that understanding and respecting one’s audience is important in media, and that is one of the reasons she is so successful in her position today.

Ms. Smester’s commitment to Univsion and her career was recognized when she was named one of the Top 25 Powerful Women. The advice she can share with the younger generation of women entering the workforce is to work hard and to be passionate about what you do.
