Driven by her desire to achieve results and be the best in her field, Susan Lussem has spent the past two decades garnering expertise in industrial engineering, procurement, and supply chain. Her background experience and knowledge recently helped become the chief procurement officer of Middle East operations for BP p.l.c., an oil and gas company. Ms. Lussem sees how her particular role fits into the bigger picture and benefits the organization and the bottom line, and loves the fact that it allows her tackle challenges head-on.
On a day-to-day basis, Ms. Lussem is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including integrating all procurement supply chain management resources, demand and activity in the Middle Eastern region and maximizing the value of third-party spending. She also ensures cost recovery through compliance and control across the region, serves as a member of the regional president’s leadership team, and remains accountable for risk management, planning, people, standards and processes, performance management, and execution. Further, Ms. Lussem oversees contracting activity in Oman, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and other emerging Middle Eastern countries in collaboration with the relevant operating function and leads all contracting demand for Iraq.
Along her journey, Ms. Lussem earned a Master of Engineering in engineering management from the University of Johannesburg and a Bachelor of Engineering in industrial engineering from the University of Pretoria. She is also a member of CIPA, and supports the charitable mission of the RSPCA. In the next five years, Ms. Lussem hopes to be the head of an executive team and gain international exposure for the company.
