An overachiever and a trailblazer, Pamela F. Garcia is always eager to win a project, get it off the ground, and make things happen. She joined General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, a satellite communication company, because it offered the potential to capitalize on her 10 years of experience in the telecommunications and satellite industries, as well as her 22 years in the Marine Corps. In her role as the senior program manager, she is responsible for overseeing profits and losses, ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget, and supervising design, development, production, installation and testing. Ms. Garcia feels that her greatest strength is people development; she mentors individuals and works with them so that they can have a “light bulb moment.” Furthermore, she is skilled in technical team leadership development and software development.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Garcia earned a master’s degree in military studies from American University in 1994, an MBA in marketing from National University in 1982, and a bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology from the University of Utah in 1976. She is also a certified project management professional and a certified instructor in crucial communication. Ms. Garcia attributes her success to her parents, who supported her in whatever she wanted to do. She would like to be remembered for achieving goals and raising the bar for others.
Looking forward, Ms. Garcia’s hopes are to work within a larger program and attain a director or CEO level with a larger area of influence. To achieve this, she intends to receive mentoring from a senior-level female professional and possibly shadow another.
