After starting out as a stock broker approximately 40 years ago, Darlene Andert became one of few women to open her own practice. With tenacity and perseverance, she thrived in the business world. Dr. Andert eventually decided to turn her talents to education, however, and has been serving Florida Gulf Coast University for more than a decade now. She currently teaches management courses at the university’s College of Business, and researches leadership and corporate governance.
To prepare for her career, Dr. Andert earned an Ed.D. in human and organizational development from George Washington University in 2003, a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University in 1993, and a Bachelor of Arts in business management and professional communications from Alverno College in 1983. She is also a certified management consultant and management development professional. Dr. Andert is proud to have developed a prescriptive model for corporate governance, which was published in her dissertation. If she could offer some advice to the younger generations entering the workforce, it would be to take the time to learn about and understand the people they deal with.
When Dr. Andert isn’t working, she loves spending time with her mother, relaxing with the rest of her family, reading, and writing. She also sends food to the local food bank, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association, various academic associations, and the NACD. Dr. Andert hopes to be remembered for always giving 150 percent.
