Inspired by her passion for helping children, Camelia Flye has spent nearly a decade serving the Abyssinian Development Corporation as an administrative assistant. The nonprofit organization provides community and economic development services, including the construction of human, social, and physical capital, to the people of Harlem, New York. Their goal is to rebuild the community and empower the residents to realize their goals and dreams through comprehensive programs and efforts to fortify the family unit.
Ms. Flye’s responsibilities with the organization include managing payroll and financial reports, assisting adolescents with general educational development, preparing adolescents for interviews, and working to increase the availability of quality housing for people of diverse incomes. Her role also includes enhancing the delivery of social services, supporting economic revitalization, and developing educational and developmental opportunities for youth. Ms. Flye attributes her success to the support and encouragement she has received from her family, and considers her greatest strength to be her listening skills. To prepare for her career, she earned a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from Saint Louis University, a certification in HIV and AIDS, and a certification in training for leadership. Ms. Flye also draws on her prior experience as an educator and working in social services. She loves life, and is a firm believer that people should enjoy what they do. Looking forward, Ms. Flye aims to achieve personal and professional growth while traveling the world.
