Kathy Jo Espelien combined her expertise in marketing, exposure, networking and leadership with her fiancé’s building background to form All Sons’ Exteriors. The construction company, named for the couples six sons, specializes in siding and exterior remodeling. Their extended services include new construction, windows, roofing, decks, weather restoration and interior remodeling. All Sons’ Exteriors won the Radars Choice Award for General Contractors in 2013.

One of Ms. Espelien’s greatest accomplishments is the growth of her company, as they have tripled their sales in the past three years. Looking forward, her vision is to expand into building residential homes. At the moment, Ms. Espelien’s company builds two houses a year, but she wants that number to grow to 30 a year. She is inspired by the fact that she works for herself and helps other people; she finds it rewarding to build homes for wonderful families.

To prepare for this career, Ms. Espelien utilized hands-on experience and a certification as a master shingle applicator wizard. She hopes to leave a legacy of building growth in others and empowering women to follow their dreams. Ms. Espelien would tell the next generation of women entering the field that it is possible to thrive in construction, despite the fact that it is a male-dominated industry. She is a member of the National Association of Professional Women, The International Women’s Leadership Association, and the Women Business Enterprise National Council. Additionally, Ms. Espelien is affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce for Lakeville and Faribault, Minnesota, the Builders Association of Twin City, the Better Business Bureau, and the Community Association Institute.
