Joey Michaels’ interest in law got piqued in college, where she was required to take a couple of required law classes. Although she was majoring in forensic psychology at the time, she eventually decided to switch paths. Ms. Michaels is now an attorney at Jeffrey S. Schecter & Associates, P.C., where she represents clients in all aspects of matrimonial and family law litigation, including custody, visitation, equitable distribution, child and spousal support, enforcement proceedings, modification proceedings, and family offense proceedings. She is skilled in court preparation, trial motions, and advocacy, which has resulted in favorable decisions and settlements for her clients.

In recognition for her success in the field, Ms. Michaels was listed as one of the Super Lawyers Top Female Attorneys in New York in 2015, and as a 2014 Super Lawyers Rising Star. She was also named among New York Metro Area’s Outstanding Young Lawyers in 2014.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Michaels earned a JD from New York Law School in 2009, and a Bachelor of Arts in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2015. She is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey. Ms. Michaels is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association, and ABA. Looking to the future, she hopes to experience continued growth and success with the firm, and eventually have her own practice.
