A seasoned and accomplished entrepreneur focused on building a multi generational business for her children and community, Adrian L. Foster is the president and CEO of one of the fastest growing female-owned construction companies in the Southeast. Foster Construction of South Florida, Inc., specializes in the commercial construction of office buildings, restaurants, medical facilities, airports, military installations, jails, parks and schools. Ms. Foster started the business with her husband 18 years ago, and vowed to see their vision through when he suddenly passed away four years ago. She considers her greatest accomplishment to be increasing her company’s revenue and growing the business even in the midst of the economic downturn.
As a female business owner in a male-dominated industry, Ms. Foster needed to work hard to earn the respect of the men she deals with on a daily basis. She has received a lot of recognition for her efforts, however, including being honored as one of the 50 Most Powerful Minority Entrepreneurs by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2014. Ms. Foster also led her business to earn the title of Company of the Year from Legacy Magazine in 2010, and be recognized as a Leader in Commercial Real Estate by the South Florida Journal. Still, she would like to see the industry focus on creating more opportunities for females by educating them and creating a welcoming environment.
Ms. Foster prepared for her career by earning a Bachelor of Arts in public administration and taking classes in estimating and project management safety. Additionally, she has a knowledge of government contracts and government agency needs. Ms. Foster plans to continue to grow and sustain the company until her three sons can take it over. She hopes to be remembered as someone who never gave up, pushed through difficult and painful events, and started a new chapter as a testament to what can be done with a desire to reach a goal.
