Armed with a curiosity for science and a love of learning, Rocio Navarro aims to make the world a better place through the ethical practice of medicine. She became involved in her profession after graduation, when she was given the opportunity to work in clinical trials. With the help of wonderful mentors, Ms. Navarro became an expert in the human immunodeficiency virus, dermatology, chronic kidney disease, medical device management, pharmacy drug development, gene therapy, and pediatric and geriatric medicine. She is now a senior clinical research associate at INC Research, where her responsibilities include writing government contracts, ensuring patient safety, and reviewing boards. Additionally, Ms. Navarro travels all over North America, the Dominican Republic, Canada and Puerto Rico to ensure that clinical human trials abide by federal code and U.S. FDA regulations.
Every project Ms. Navarro has been a part of has been a major accomplishment in her eyes. She feels lucky to have had so many opportunities in such a rewarding profession. Ms. Navarro especially enjoys connecting with nurses, doctors and staff on a day-to-day basis regarding diseases and treatments, and seeing the positive results of her field.
As a way to stay on top of the industry, Ms. Navarro is pursuing a master’s degree in biotechnical management from the University of Maryland. She is also a certified clinical research associate, as per the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. In the next five years, Ms. Navarro intends to advance to a more senior-level position while widening her specialties to include the fields of oncology, biology and vaccines.
