Within the past 41 years of pursuing a career in higher education, Gretchen Rich has found the most gratifying aspect of her career is seeing her students succeed. Now, in her 10th year as assistant professor at Dakota Wesleyan University, she continues to provide and build upon her expertise in foundation English, including composition, history, grammar, and structural principles. In five years, Ms. Rich plans to continue overseeing student assessment.
Throughout her work-week, Ms. Rich writes grants for students with disabilities, oversees assessment plans, and assists students with their dissertations, while lecturing and organizing seminars. In 1981, she graduated with a master’s degree in American literature from The University of South Dakota, having graduated prior from Yankton College with a bachelor’s degree in speech and theater arts. To keep abreast of changes in her profession, Ms. Rich holds memberships with College English Association, National Council of Teachers of English, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and Toastmasters International. During her free-time, she supports the Mitchell Area Safehouse.
