Sylvia Kwan founded Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning, Inc. in 1980 with a commitment to the success of her clients and the realization of their design objectives. Her balance of architectural design expertise paired with her strong communication and leadership skill has enabled Kwan Henmi Architecture & Planning to have a 30 year legacy within the community of San Francisco. In five years, Ms. Kwan hopes to increase her staff and expand her company.
Ms. Kwan attributes her success to her tenacity, determination and the support she receives from her team members. Initially, she became involved in her profession because she was influenced by her family members, some of whom were architects. In 1978, she received a master’s degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, has a license to practice through the State of California, and is certified in leadership in energy and environment design.
Throughout her work-week, Ms. Kwan oversees business development strategies, builds relationships with clients, manages projects and forages public opinion. Throughout her career, she has earned the Pace Setter Award through Women’s Initiative, the Award for Achievement through Asian Business League of San Francisco, and was named Woman of the Year from American Diabetes Association. During her free-time, she volunteers through local women’s initiatives.
