Mary Tufano is a marketing professional with 20 years’ experience specializing in magazine publishing, database building and management, promotional planning, marketing partnerships, media planning, and e-marketing strategy/development. A decade of her career was spent in the natural products industry working at Natural Organics, a leading vitamin manufacturer on Long Island. She was hired as the Media Buyer for their Natures Plus line of supplements, as well as the Advertising Sales and Marketing Manager for Energy Times Magazine, a health and wellness publication the company produced. She also became the Associate Publisher for Natural Digest Magazine, a sister publication to Energy Times. An opportunity came to expand her profile, so she started Media Network, a marketing firm servicing the health and wellness industry. Her first client was Long Island’s largest vitamin manufacturer NBTY, where she would spend the next six years working with the team at MET-Rx sports nutrition. Working under a Consulting Agreement, she started out as the Associate Publisher and Editor for MET-Rx Magazine, a consumer publication targeting fitness enthusiasts. Impressed with her work, the company quickly promoted her to Senior Marketing Manager for MET-Rx, responsible for the brands marketing and promotional strategies including co-branded campaigns with high end partners such as ESPN and the NHL. When the time came to move forward, Mary established a full service publishing firm named Page 3 Publishing, adding two business partners with diverse skill sets. Their first project was in the medical field, where Mary spent two years as the Associate Publisher and Editor for Critical HealthCare Magazine, a consumer publication targeting patients living with chronic disease and illness. This past year, the firm took on the book publishing world working with a nutrition and weight loss coach to publish a 187 page manual entitled “The Art of Weight Loss Coaching,” and a consumer book entitled “Your Decade Diet.”
The bulk of Mary’s experience comes from her work with specialty publications created for niche audiences, a strategic marketing approach developed to achieve growth. Every publication is designed as a marketing tool to help promote a company’s product or service. According to Mary, “a magazine reaches a target audience and promotes a brand through advertising, editorial and promotional offers. It offers an entertaining way of becoming a voice for a brand, which may otherwise go unheard in other channels delivered in an overcrowded marketplace.”
Passionate about health and wellness, Mary recently became a Certified Nutritional Advisor. She is also a Team Beach Body Coach endorsing Shakeology shakes and the 21 Day Fix. She continues to consult for such companies as Forte Marketing, a web based advertising and marketing agency servicing all industries, and is currently a marketing consultant at Incentives Organic Spa and Salon.
