For more than 42 years, Grace Jorgensen served Bellevue Women’s Hospital as a doctor, owner and director. Her mother founded the institution, which is designed to cater solely to women and infants, in 1931, and Dr. Jorgensen took over from 1959 until her retirement in 2001. While she was there, she delivered more than 7,000 babies and attracted excellent talent in every field, including physician support, pain management, fertility, ultrasound, and nursing care.
As a testament to her success, Dr. Jorgenson was recognized with the prestigious Allen Award by Albany Medical Center for her lifetime contributions, and is an honored member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. Further, Bellevue Women’s Hospital was recognized by Snowmass Institute as the finest free-standing women’s service in the U.S. Dr. Jorgenson considers her greatest accomplishment, however, to be all she has accomplished in her role with Bellevue Women’s Hospital to better the community.
Looking to the future, Dr. Jorgenson hopes to be remembered as someone who made a difference and encouraged others to follow their dreams. She is now in retirement, and intends to enjoy life and live it to the fullest.
