With more than 20 years in human resources, Kitty Poehler was named an HR professional by the Society of Human Resources for her mastery in the technical and operational aspects of HR practices. She has been using this expertise as the executive director of benefits and risk management for the Northwest Independent School District in Texas for the past two years now. In this position, Ms. Poehler has a variety of responsibilities, including supervising, administering and developing different types of benefit programs, insurance plans and FMLA and district leave plans, as well as creating self-funded insurance programs for the student netbooks.  Additionally, she is responsible for creating communication across the different departments and supervising and directing the background check process for employees and volunteers, as well as facilitating the orientation programs for new hires. Finally, she is also in charge of developing and facilitating technical policy compliance and performance management coaching.

Early in her career, Ms. Poehler worked in finance, but she found it difficult to establish professional credibility, so she decided to pursue a career in human resources so she could work with and help others. Her ability to think on her feet and still remain personable and caring has absolutely attributed to her success in her field. Aside from her career, she is very proud of being able to finish her degree while working full time and raising a family. Looking forward, she hopes to be able to return to school and receive her master’s degree sometime in the near future.

Ms. Poehler wants to be remembered as an exceptional HR professional, a good mother and a kind human being. She is also a proud supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
