Prior to her position as the alumni relations director and assistant director of development for Indiana University – Purdue University Columbus, Cynthia Felsten worked in city and state government. She eventually decided to change her career and follow her love of raising money; she wanted to find a position where she could work to raise money for the campus, students and labs of Indiana University, her alma mater. She is passionate about ensuring graduates are successful and get jobs after graduation, as well as connecting them with associations and boards in their fields.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Felsten received a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology. In her current position, her greatest strengths are her research and communication skills. She also does a lot of speaking with groups to encourage women to run for public office and is always trying to boost women up. Looking to the future of her career, she hopes to bring in a few more millions to help the students successfully and happily move into their respective fields. She also wants to continue lobbying and speaking on behalf of women.
Professionally, Ms. Felsten’s greatest accomplishment is leading the organization on a state and national level, as well as her role in leading a women’s leadership conference that had the highest number of participants ever. Ms. Felsten wants to be remembered for helping women succeed. Personally, she is proud of bringing up her son and daughter to respect people and to fight for everyone’s rights.
Ms. Felsten is affiliated with Business Professional Women, Zonta International, Integrating Women Leaders, Indiana Delegate for Vision 2020, and The International Women’s Leadership Association. She is also an advisory member for the Region 9 Arts Council, supports the Columbus Area Multi Ethnic Organization (CAMEO), and enjoys traveling, gardening, cooking, entertaining in her free time. Additionally, she is a huge animal lover.
