As soon as Teresa Merritt started taking dance classes as a child, she knew she had found her passion. She continued to pursue dance throughout her life, and opened her own studio, Life Moves Dance Studio, in 1999. There, Ms. Merritt and her staff instruct students of all ages, from preschool to adult, in a variety of styles including ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and tap. Besides techniques, however, she and her staff also work to nurture the whole being of the dancer by developing self-esteem and spiritual growth, and educating on nutrition, exercise, music appreciation and good morals. When they are ready, Ms. Merritt’s students perform in competitions and community recitals.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Merritt completes continuing education in dance, nutrition, health, and wellness. She attributes her success to her passion for dance and her faith in God. In recognition for her achievements, Ms. Merritt earned the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International, an association of which she is a member, in 2012. She is also affiliated with the National Federation of Independent Business, and is on the board of Family Promise. Looking to the future, Ms. Merritt intends to open another dance studio.
