Wielding 56 years of experience in public health nursing, Irma Jean Eufinger has spent the past 14 years as an occupational health nurse for the Oklahoma City County Health Department. She initially became involved in her profession after exhibiting a natural talent while caring for her sick grandmother. Since then, Ms. Eufinger has become well-known in the community for her excellence and knowledge of health practices. Her current role includes acting as a liaison regarding immunizations for domestic and international travelers and educating employees on nursing health topics. As Ms. Eufinger works to promote public health, protection, and education, she creates awareness within the neighborhood regarding communicable diseases and helps to rid the community of illness. She finds the most gratifying aspect of her career to be teaching women and children and impacting their lives in a positive manner.
Throughout her career, Ms. Eufinger has demonstrated her motivation, passion, people management skills, and ability to communicate effectively. These attributes are exactly what earned her the Lillian Wald Award for 25 Years of Exemplary Service in Nursing in 2010, and an award for contributing to the field of public health from the Oklahoma Public Health Association in 2009. Ms. Eufinger prepared for her career by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1959. She also continually updates her education in the field of public health, and is constantly seeking out new resources for the citizens of her community.
