Mary Helen Halsema, MS

Fueled by her passion for working with students, Mary Helen Halsema has spent the past 10 years in the higher education environment. She currently focuses her efforts on empowering students in the College of Agriculture at Purdue University to pursue leadership development and research opportunities. Ms. Halsema’s greatest strength is her ability to develop strong relationships, which has served her well in her career. She is inspired by seeing the people she works with succeed, learn from their failures, and follow rewarding career paths.

One of the highlights of Ms. Halsema’s career was hosting the Old Master Program for the grad students who come back for the Advising and Professional Development Workshops. She is also proud of her role in the Leadership Development Certificate Program, which pairs students with a mentor to enhance their leadership experiences. Ms. Halsema attributes her success to her own advisers, as well as her drive and her desire to achieve great things. Looking forward, her professional goal is to continue in her current position, as she truly loves what she does.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Halsema earned a Master of Science in higher education with a focus on leadership development from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She is currently on the board of directors for the AgrIInstitute Indiana Agriculture Leadership Program, and is the outgoing president of the board of directors for Family Service, Inc. Additionally, Ms. Halsem volunteers for St. Mary Cathedral Bible Studies and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. She enjoys cooking, gardening, and taking her fishing boat out to the lake when she has spare time.
