After more than three decades in the health care administration arena, Mary Freeman has developed an extensive array of skills, including nursing, clinical instruction, teaching in a simulation setting, safety, medications, physical assessments, and critical situations. She is currently utilizing this expertise as the associate director of learning services with the University of Saskatchewan, a simulation center in the health sciences arena. In her role, Ms. Freeman is responsible for overseeing the administrative coordination of the center. She attributes her success to her leadership skills, as well as her humble and collaborative nature.
One of the highlights of Ms. Freeman’s career was building a 15,000 square foot unit that is fully staffed and operational. She was inspired along the way by her nursing instructors, professional colleagues, and husband. Ms. Freeman prepared for her career by obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in cardiac rehabilitation, from the University of Wisconsin. She also holds a CCRN-K. Looking forward, Ms. Freeman would like to develop more of a human resources understanding, hold a leadership role in a health care setting, and continue to develop leadership courses. She hopes to be remembered as a quiet leader who was kind and helped others grow, as well as for being a good mother. Ms. Freeman participates in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, The American Nursing Association, The International Women’s Leadership Association, and the Association of Leadership Program at the University of Saskatchewan. When she isn’t working, she enjoys cooking, woodworking, sewing, traveling, walking, and arts and crafts.
