Drawing on four decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Sandra Basheer has decided to utilize her talents through her own consultancy, Sandra Basheer Event Management Company Limited. She started her career in information, and then went into public relations and event management. Ms. Basheer also spent 30 years working for the government of Trinidad. She proceeded to earn a degree in communications and event management from George Washington University, and, as a result, she was able to open her own business. Ms. Basheer found that she was receiving many calls from people who wanted advice, making this career path a great fit. She carved herself a niche.

If there was one thing Ms. Basheer could change about her profession, however, it would be the ethical attitude. She wants to bring back morals, and seeks to grind good principles back into the industry, especially for the young people beginning their careers. Ms. Basheer feels fulfilled as a respected and accepted true professional, and so, looking forward, she plans to pass on what she has learned. She currently teaches event management and hospitality at a number of institutions in addition to her consultancy. Honored for her efforts, Ms. Basheer won the Adjunct Faculty Award, the Business School Award, the Tenor Award, and a Special Award, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. When she isn’t working or teaching, Ms. Basheer serves as the vice chair of The Shelter for Domestic Violence, which houses up to 30 women and children. She also loves singing, cooking, and serving as a minister of religion. Additionally, Ms. Basheer is in the process of pursuing a doctorate, which, as a single parent with a full-time job, she feels is her greatest accomplishment.
