As part of the top 3 percent of hearing care professionals, Barbara May enjoys both the science involved with hearing instruments and the ability to help those suffering through testing, fitting, and superior service. Known as “The Hearing Lady” by patients and colleagues, she takes on the toughest cases, researches them, and finds the perfect solution. Ms. May is passionate about her clients’ needs, and will do whatever it takes to help them. She is currently a hearing specialist and audioprosthologist at Optimal Hearing, which offers advice, service and technology related to hearing loss. Each employee is required to sign the Oath to the Hearing Impaired, which lives and breathes at the heart of the company and is reflective of their strong ethical principles and dedication to the community.

To prepare for her career, Ms. May earned an ACA designation from the International Hearing Society. She is one of only 510 people in the world with an audioprosthology certification. Ms. May has also completed coursework in speech communications, psychology and math at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Looking forward, she intends to continue to do what she loves, as well as take on more speaking engagements and write more books and papers on hearing. Ms. May participates in the Roswell Lions Club, the Georgia Society of Hearing Professionals, the Hearing Loss Association of America, and The International Women’s Leadership Association. She is also very active with Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure, which is a nonprofit organization committed to funding research to prevent and cure DYT-1 dystonia while raising awareness for the disorder.
