Inspired by her parents, who encouraged her to find a career she was passionate about, Sheree York decided to enter the medical field. Her parents also raised her to have an excellent work ethic and to always do the right thing, which has contributed to her success with Children’s of Alabama. The private, nonprofit medical center provides specialized medical care for ill and injured children. US News & World Report ranked it among the best pediatric medical centers in the nation.
To prepare for her career, Dr. York earned a doctorate in physical therapy from the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2010, an advanced master’s degree in physical therapy with a concentration in pediatrics and physical therapy, and a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy. Her greatest strengths lie in early intervention with infants and toddlers, treatment evaluations, and neonatal care. In recognition for her success, Dr. York was recently selected for inclusion in “The Best of the U.S.’s 2008” list of the best professionals in the U.S., and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Alabama. She was also honored with the Distinguished Award from the Alabama Physical Therapy Association and the Lucy Blair Service Award, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. If Dr. York could offer some advice to the younger generation of women entering the workforce, it would be to find a balance between work and family, and to continuously grow, build networks, and find mentors. In her experience, the support of other professionals and mentors helped guide her in the direction she needed to be in.
