Raised in a single-family home, Lois Bingham was always expected to do her best. In her pursuit of excellence, she earned a JD from the James E. Beasley School of Law at Temple University in 1992, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. Now, as a driven, goal-oriented individual with strong leadership capabilities, Ms. Bingham is serving as the vice president, general counsel, and secretary and compliance officer for Yazaki North America, Inc. The company is a global leader in the research, development and delivery of vehicle power and data solutions, and is one of the largest privately-owned automotive suppliers. In her role, Ms. Bingham oversees legal department operations, corporate compliance, and the provision of legal services for Yazaki affiliates in North and Central America. She also manages the company’s portfolio of intellectual property, is responsible for corporate governance, and is a key contributor in enterprise risk management.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Bingham served as the managing counsel for legal service delivery in Mexico, handled corporate restructuring and merger and acquisition activity in the Americas, and was the lead attorney for the Chrysler, General Motors, and Component business units. She began her career with Butzel Long, and moved on to R.L. Polk and Co. before joining Yazaki. Ms. Bingham considers her greatest accomplishment to be winning the In-House Counsel Award for a private company with revenue of more than $1 billion from Crains Detroit Business in April 2015. Additionally, under her leadership, Yazaki was selected as a 2015 Value Champion by the Association of Corporate Counsel. In 2013, Ms. Bingham was featured in “DRIVEN: A Tribute to African-American Achievement in the Automotive Industry, and in 2012, she was recognized as one of Michigan Chronicle’s Women of Excellence honorees. She is currently the chair of the board of directors for the Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc., and a board member of the Chicago-based Just the Beginning Foundation, a pipeline organization with a mission to inspire under-represented, underserved and at-risk students and increase the diversity in the legal profession.
