Diane Sismour built Sismour’s Janitorial Co LLC on the foundation that her work is her advertising. She started the cleaning company because it gave her the flexibility to work and raise her kids, and now, 25 years later, she has reached a milestone in the industry. Ms. Sismour started out working with residential homes, and then moved on to commercial work. The company has six employees at the moment, but Ms. Sismour is looking to expand the business three-fold within the next year or so. The expansion will allow her to be less hands-on and serve as more of a managerial figure within the company.

One of the challenges Ms. Sismour faces is working with men; she had to show them that she knows exactly what she is doing and how things should be done. She hopes to see more women take leadership roles in the industry in the future, however, and would advise them to not be afraid to grow. Ms. Sismour would like to be remembered as a hardworking, fair person who always did her best. When she isn’t working, she enjoys kayaking, gardening, writing, and poetry.
